Person Specification:


  • Educated to Degree level (or equivalent) with proven relevant experience in a similar role
  • OR
  • An extensive track record of relevant work experience in a similar role
  • Proven negotiating, influencing and diplomacy skills;
  • Knowledge of key issues, trends in China's economic and social development;
  • Proven people management skills;
  • Ability to think strategically, and to contribute to policymaking;
  • A sound understanding of the interface between academic and business communities;
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills;
  • Proven oral and written skills in both English and Chinese;
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills;
  • Experience working in higher education institutions;
  • At least 5 years of management experience on equivalent role;
  • Experience in the commissioning, design and/or delivery of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity;
  • Proven experience within the following areas:
  1. The sale of high-value services – including identifying and developing business opportunities, commercial negotiation, the submission of competitive proposals, and successfully concluding new deals;

  2. Account management;

  3. Financial costings and budgetary management;

  • People management experience
  • Ability to lead, coach, motivate and develop team to deliver consistent high quality service;
  • Able to work under pressure and to manage multiple tasks.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Integrate China's economic and social development requirements to formulate the university’s CPD development plans;
  • Maintain close intelligence on CPD projects, identify and establish productive links with potential partners, promoting the University as a leading and integral part in CPD market;
  • Lead on exploiting synergies in engagement with outstanding academic team in the public and private sectors and the teaching and research activities of the University to deliver various courses;
  • Be a key contributor in organizing high quality non-academic and non-degree education training programs, involving courses in the field of economic management, public administration, social culture, engineering and international cooperation, etc.
  • Be a key contributor in promoting Chinese trainees and international exchanges through themed high-level continuing education program;
  • Inform and inspire academic staff regarding the potential and actual needs of partners through authoritative advice so as to stimulate the development of research, products and services that will meet expressed and potential need;
  • Drive and develop Degree program;
  • Day to day management of the CPD team and play a leading role and provide performance management for allocated staff within CPD team;
  • Represent the University at internal and external events, which will include developing and delivering presentations and participating in workshops and seminars;
  • Provide training and advice to successfully design, negotiate and deliver large-scale projects;
  • Participate in training and staff development events, as trainer or trainee as appropriate;
  • Maintain appropriate professional development, expertise and awareness;
  • Undertake other tasks and responsibilities as may reasonably be required.
