Responsibilities of the position:
a. Responsible for product development and work coordination (including product quotation/line review arrangement/safety certification (CSA/UL)/ Level II test/pilot run, etc. )
b. Transfer relevant product information to QA. Assists the QA department to deal with issues that relate to the product category
c. When detailed drawings/renderings are needed, engineers to provide.
d. Finalizes spec direction with PM and requests from the factory specific product design and quotation.
e. Initiates sample making process with factory once PM approves quotation. Make sure fit/form/function are presentable for customers; ensure top quality samples.
f. When formal production orders are received, it is the engineer's responsibility to work with the factory to prepare samples according to confirmed customer specifications. Engineer will ensure that the product meets all of GHP requirements governed by safety standards and listing agencies. He/she will improve the product design as needed
g. The engineer should create and provide a product development schedule to PM
h. The engineer should understand and execute timelines according to schedule.
i. Engineers to review thoroughly and recommend changes to the IR reports. Review with Engineering management.
j. Request test protocols from QC, receive test protocols, and work with factory to prepare internal tests according to the protocols.
k. Work with the factory to prepare PPT samples when applicable, and make sure that internal factory testing, when applicable, is conducted prior to submittal.
1. Responsible for making sure CAPAs are complete and effective at solving the issues.
m. Work with the factory to prepare transit test samples when applicable, and make sure that internal factory testing is conducted prior to submittal.
n. Responsible for making certain weights and measures of products meet specifications.
o. Make sure appropriate tooling documents are filled out accurately and completely
p. Work with factory to provide die lines, line drawings, parts lists and instructions to U.S. team to create manuals and artwork.
q. Provide engineering expertise when it comes to product recommendations. (ie. Safety concerns, better ways to implement a concept, product improvements, etc).
r. Drive the Pilot Run with QA assistance to understand the production line.
s. Make sure sign off samples meet all specification requirements, match BOM, match manual and packaging. Any inconsistencies must be fixed.
t. Provide sign off samples to PM or other management in a timely manner. Keep QC informed.
u. Set QC requirements for features or components from a functionality perspective.
v. Work with PM closely and report the development schedule and any problems that occur during the product development process.
w. Review packaging, manuals, and labels to ensure they match product specifications and BOM
x. Communicate with product team/translators regularly regarding project status so that PM is advised.
· Degree in mechanical engineering/mechanical technology or equivalent work experience in mechanical design or manufacturing.
· Work experience and knowledge of:
o Materials: metals, plastics, composites, etc.
o Finishes: plating, paint, porcelain enamel, etc.
o Manufacturing processes: stamping, forming, drawing, punching, etc.
o Tooling: production and prototype tooling.
o 3D CAD software and 2D drawing creation.
· Knowledge of interpretation and test requirements/procedures of safety standards: CSA/ANSI/UL.
· Project management experience preferred.
