Main Responsibility:

Manage Customer Technical Requirements. Responsible for managing customer’s technical requirements with respect to successful development and manufacturing of the product with suppliers in China. Understands Customer technical and product requirements, translates them to ensure the supplier understands and meets them. Provides feedback to customer on material, process availability and capability in China for design optimization and manufacturability in China.

Coordinates Technical Project activities. Manage timelines to accomplish tasks in support of the program timing. Coordinates with internal (Project Team) and External (Customer, Suppliers) to ensure all the technical requirements are communicated. Ensures customer satisfaction by meeting deadlines, managing product changes, while optimizing product cost.

Manages Flow of all technical information from Customer to JSJCN team and Suppliers. Responsible for managing and communication of all technical information from the Customers. Ensures that the team and the suppliers understand the customer expectations relative to performance, quality, tooling requirements, process requirements and timing. Releases and manages prototype and production product prints, communicates engineering changes to the supplier and the team.

Documents all responsibilities and /or activities in order to maintain accurate records of project accountabilities. Tracks, documents, and manages all product prints and bills of materials. Documents, organizes, and manages all engineering analysis, process flow, FMEAs, Control Plans, Product validation outputs and deliverables.

Serves as a member of the Project Team by for Coordination of new designs, design changes and other technical activities. Maintains liaison with individuals and units within and outside the company for specific assignments on coordination of design information. Provides Technical leadership in product and process and is the authority for all-Technical data relative to the project. Provides support for supplier process engineering and internal quality engineer and supplier quality engineering during development and launch.

Monitors and controls objectives, costs, and timetables of product design and development. Ensures that internal and external development requirements are met relative to design goals, product cost, and delivery schedules. Manages all product designs, prints, bills of materials, engineering analysis’, prototyping, verification activities, and validation activities in terms of specifications, resources, timing, and costs per the program objectives.

Performs other duties as necessary in support of business objectives. This position description is intended to guide the activities of the Product Engineer. It is not intended to limit the thinking and creativity of the person to the work of this function. Nor is it intended that this describe all the work that may be required of the person in this position

Supplier Evaluations. Participates as the member of the team to evaluate potential suppliers. Provides technical insight in evaluating the suppliers’ processes, technical knowhow and capabilities for specific products and projects.

Evaluation of Pre-Production Components and process. Evaluates the suppliers process to ensure they have process and systems in place to meet the standards of the customer. Evaluates and approves all product characteristics as per customer requirements before sending it to the customer for final approval. Maintains records of all the dimensional, testing and other technical information that is sent to the customer as part of the approval process

Technical Translation. As and when required, should assist in the translation of technical information from English to Chinese so that the internal team and the suppliers understand the customer requirements.

Educational Requirements:

B.S. Engineering required; M.S or MBA Preferred

Experience Requirements:

3 – 5 years’ experience in product /manufacturing engineering in a JV of WFOE;

2 years in a Project Engineer Role or Program Management;

Ability to travel both domestically and internationally required as needed.

English Language Skills in both Spoken and Written.

Industry Experience:

Experience in the automotive, machinery & electronics, industrial products in a Manufacturing Environment is required.

Technical Competencies – specifically related to this position:

Fact Based Problem Solving: Understands and practices the process of fact based problem solving and the tools (4M’s, Y Tree, Is/Is Not, 5 Whys) associated with that process.

Design of Experiments: Uses controlled study of process variables ensuring desired output in specified processes.

Build Customer Relationships: Establishes effective relationships with customers over time; serves as a liaison between the organization and the customer; provides ongoing service after the sale.

Project Management: Defines objectives; develops plans that are comprehensive, realistic, and effective in meeting goals; develops contingency plans; provides clear direction; monitors progress; follows up to ensure objectives are met; keeps others informed.

Mechanical Engineering Skills: Intuitive understanding of material sciences, kinematics, statics and strengths of materials, durability, Dimensional Management, noise, vibration, tolerance, capability, variation, and physics. Uses these tools to simply designs for ease of manufacture and low cost, efficient tooling, fit or mating of components, and ease of assembly.

Computer Skills: Extensive understanding of CAD, FEA, spreadsheets, and word processing.

Systems: Familiarity with integrated design and manufacturing systems and ability to understand roles outside of engineering.
