GENERAL SUMMARY (Describe the overall duties and responsibilities of the job): Engineer, Principal, Materials – Polymers responsible for leading developing new material (not only EPDM/TPE compound) to meet the requirement of OEM, solving the key material issues customer concerned, researching the microcosmic mechanism of material to analyze and predict the properties of material, providing expertise in polymeric material selection and usage. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Duties required for successful job performance): Lead the innovation activities, including team members, suppliers, other functions, universities and research institutions Design and develop new material which is not limited to the current material such as EPDM/TPV compound, to meet the OEM spec or solve the special material issues customer concerned more. Co-research the material with university or strategic supplier partners to develop the new material. Co-develop polymeric materials with and advanced engineering activities taking into account commercially viability, commodity strategies, design/manufacturing requirements, and product line technology development and quality roadmaps. Develop materials specifications and source approvals for polymeric and elastomeric raw materials. Support the process technologies development with COC; Lead the validation process of new material; Review and approve materials and specifications listed on engineering documentation for company designed and released components. · Drive and document lessons learned and best practices through up-front participation as a polymeric materials subject matter expert on problem solving teams, concept development projects, technical design reviews, and DFMEA/PFMEA development. Keep current on emerging polymeric materials and process technologies and transfer knowledge and expertise to product development, manufacturing, peers, and to the supply base through mentoring, technical presentations, and formal technical reports. REQUIRED EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE (These are the traditional minimum, or required, bona-fide occupational qualifications and other requirements of most people in this job). 1. Ph.D. in Materials/Chemical Engineering with emphasis in Polymers, rubber or TPE related is prior. 2. Minimum 8 years of related experience in the development, selection and specification of Polymeric materials, rubber or TPE related is better. 3. Advance presentation and English skills. REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Those needed to perform the essential functions of the job). 1. Good communication skills required to interact with colleagues and cross functionally. 2. Strong technical background and ability to analyze and synthesize a must 3. Possesses an in-depth understanding of polymeric materials and processes. REQUIRED DECISION-MAKING AND ORGANIZATION IMPACT (Describe the typical types of decisions made by employees in this job and the likely impact of those decisions on the Company). 1. Determine strategic direction on cost savings for new materials and products and VA/VE projects involving Polymeric materials. 2. Identify and record any nonconformity. Monitor solution implementations to verify effectiveness of changes and take corrective action. Standardize implementations to avoid further nonconformities. 3. Provide technical advice to internal and external contacts which impact quality, safety, profitability and warranty. REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS (Indicate job titles for this job’s supervisor and direct reports). 1. Position reports to the Director, AP Engineering WORKING CONDITIONS (Describe the environment within which the work is performed). 1. Office environment with interaction and visits to Prototype, Manufacturing, Laboratory, Supplier, and Customer facilities. 2. Travel may account for 20 – 30 percent of working time.
