General Description:Key technical contributor to the cross functional team comprised of Chief Manufacturing Engineers, global manufacturing facility’s personnel, Supply Chain and Product Management/Engineering, which is responsible for development and application of new products to our customers’ programs. The Advanced Manufacturing Engineering team provides global engineering leadership in the development of new processes and/or equipment to manufacture new or improved processes or products and to facilitate localization into the appropriate operations. Provide global leadership in the communication, implementation, coordination, and enforcement of the “Plan of Record” manufacturing strategies used to drive the growth plan.Position requires the use of advanced techniques and the modification and extension of theories, principles and practices of own field and related sciences and disciplines to provide global expertise on current and future key processes to improve the cost, productivity, manufacturability and standardization of our products and processes.Position level is equivalent to a Staff or Staff Senior Engineering position. Direction Received:Supervision and guidance related largely to broad overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Consults with supervisor concerning unusual problems and developments and works through the local operations’ teams.Dimensions:This position may require travel on an international basis. Some travel could be for extended periods of time in support of specific projects or equipment. The incumbent must be able to lead international teams or projects, and be an active and contributing member of a team. Must have excellent communication and project management skills to coordinate activities globally and report project status to management on a regular basis. Must have demonstrated technical problem solving skills and the creativity to develop and implement new solutions to manufacturing issues. Data analysis skills such as MiniTab are a plus. The incumbent must have the ability as well as the desire to respectfully work within varied & diverse cultural environments.This position is to be recognized in the business unit as a technical authority and will serve as a technical consultant for the plant and top management.Key Accountabilities:? May serve as the team leader or a technical team member of the cross functional development/implementation team. Team to be comprised of Product Engineering, Supply chain, and local Operations personnel and focused on developing new products.? Lead the development and ensure implementation of new standardized manufacturing processes and/or equipment for new products. Work may be performed through a lead production RU or supplier.? Responsible for establishing and quantifying initial cost assumptions for newly developed processes in advance of program applications.? Responsible for documenting new process parameters and capturing lessons learned.? Responsible for documenting and providing training materials for standardized implementation of the new process into the local RU’s. May involve instructional manuals, guidebooks, and lead training classes to ensure understanding and application in the global operations. Responsible for technology transfer to all necessary RU’s.? Responsible for applying or developing new engineering and scientific theory, principles, concepts, and techniques when developing the new manufacturing process.? Must work closely with the product engineering team and have a high level of experience in applying GD&T, DOE, capability studies, design for manufacturability, measurement systems analysis, reliability analysis, and knowledge of test methods and validation techniques.? Must have a strong understanding of the product function, customer and industry’s quality and warranty requirements, and BW’s Change Management process.? When required, must be able to support the manufacturing operations in solving technical problems using robust problem solving techniques.? Must understand the importance of intellectual property, including how to apply for patents and trade secrets to protect innovations.? Must be familiar with the BorgWarner Program Management system and be able to apply project management techniques to schedule engineers, technicians, operating personnel from multiple countries, and equipment suppliers to accomplish project objectives and timing.? Work closely with Chief Manufacturing Engineers to establish Plans of Records (POR) in line with the overall manufacturing strategies, TAP programs and LRP growth plan. POR’s serve as the starting point for the MSO process. May serve on the MSO review team in support of the local RU’s.? May be required to develop and maintain budgets, obtain quotations, develop cost estimates and costing information related to management of a global project.? Works with international and local equipment and tooling manufactures to design and build equipment that meets or exceeds BW manufacturing requirements, design standards and specifications. Drives the design of standardized equipment where feasible.? Must be familiar with all BorgWarner safety standards such as machine guarding, noise limits, control of hazardous energies and the basics of ergonomic design.? May conduct benchmarking activities of other units, suppliers or manufacturers globally. Must be able to identify, document and implement best practices identified to improve our equipment and processes.? Must be able to work closely with the global team and serve in a supporting or consulting role for local RU activities such as capacity and capital planning, AR preparation, equipment relocation, equipment rebuild or obsolescence, new facility localization or expansion, machine installations, machine breakdowns or quality/delivery issues.? May lead or serve as a key technical resource on a cross functional team tasked with documenting, approving and implementing global Quality or Engineering standards.? May serve as a member or leader of a Manufacturing or Quality Council sponsored global project.? Prepare and communicate periodic and special reports concerning progress of process development, capability or localization timing activities.? Prepare and communicate periodic and special reports concerning self driven activities, activities in support of internal customers, progress on concrete and measurable performance improvement results (Q, C, D, smooth launches, capability, …)Safety:This position will adhere to Global Star Safety Program, including safety rules, practices, and training as outlined in the BorgWarner Safety Policy Manual, which includes the use of equipment, protective devices, or clothing that the employer requires.
